My Fairy Princess Choosing Your Parent Role
Father or mother: same verbs, different CGs, different Kinship flavor. Pick on purpose.
Steam’s first key feature is explicit: choose your role as a nurturing father or mother. You play a secluded cultivator who unexpectedly gets a life-changing request: to adopt an orphaned girl. From that adoption scene forward, you steer her upbringing from a chosen parental perspective. This page is the what does that choice do dossier — and what it does not do. Read this before getting started so your choice is deliberate, not the default.
The choice is one of the few in the game that does not print on the HUD. There is no stat for it, no AP cost, no achievement. What it changes is the texture of the years: how the CG camera frames you, how the Kinship flavor text reads, how the festival hearth is composed. If you skip it, the demo will pick a default. If you want the right default for your playthrough, choose it on the adoption night.
What the choice actually controls
The choice is a flavor layer. It does not lock you out of any ending, or activity, or companion arc. It changes three concrete things:
- CG portraits of the parent beside the daughter — different hair, voice, posture, and dialogue lines in the Friends book.
- Kinship flavor text — small flavor lines that say Dad sees her like this / Mom would have said / etc. Stat effects are identical.
- Nurture scene pool — quiet morning scenes, hair-brushing, festival hearth. Father and mother scenes are a mostly overlapping pool; a few scenes are parent-gated.
What it does not do:
- Does not gate endings. A healer run is a healer run regardless of parent.
- Does not gate companions. The same Liu Yuyue appears for both.
- Does not gate combat. The daughter still swings.
- Does not gate festivals. The Flower Birthday stage shot is parent-specific only in tone, not in scope.
Father route — flavor and tone
A father run lands on a tutor register. The CG pool emphasizes teaching scenes: reading, calligraphy, sword drills, walking the fence line at dusk. The parent portrait is older, calmer, with a closed fan or a tea cup.
Recommended for: prodigy leans, mortal-peace leans, a strict-but-present upbringing philosophy that pushes back against Rebellion as a virtue.
Mother route — flavor and tone
A mother run lands on a nurture register. The CG pool emphasizes care scenes: combing hair, cooking together, bedtime stories, the flower-bordered Flower Birthday dress. The parent portrait is softer, with a hairpin and an open fan.
Recommended for: enchantress leans, healer leans, mortal-peace leans, and any upbringing philosophy that treats Rebellion as conversation, not defiance.
Rotating route (rare in the demo)
A small number of scenes rotate pronouns regardless of choice. Festival CGs sometimes reuse a neutral camera. Lunar New Year hearth sometimes prints both parents as silhouettes. Treat rotation is rare; don’t build a run around it.
Six upbringing philosophies by parent
The philosophies (warrior, healer, dancer, crafter, saint, ruler) live in tier-list/endings and combat-styles. What the parent role adds is a small bias to one of those philosophies — not a hard lock. A father run leans prodigy or mortal-peace slightly. A mother run leans enchantress or healer slightly. The bias is small enough to ignore if you want a clean run with a parent who disagrees with the philosophy; it is large enough to notice in flavor text.
What you give up by choosing one
You give up very little. The choice is not a hard branch. It is a hair texture and a scene pool. New cycles let you re-pick.
What the adoption scene actually looks like
The opening scene is a single CG: a sealed letter, a quiet house, a knock on the door. The daughter arrives. The first Chat (F) is a CG sequence, not a UI prompt. Then the camera swaps to the home interior you have seen in public screenshots.
Practically: the adoption scene is the same across both choices. The CG after Chat 1 is where father / mother branches first diverge.
How to choose in a demo week
- Open the demo, run through the adoption CG.
- Look at the parent silhouette. If it lands, play three days.
- If it does not, the save is in your hand — you can start a new save with the other parent and compare scene pools in the first season.
This is one of the few cases the wiki recommends a new save before the demo ends. The two parents are different enough to deserve one playthrough each.
A note on Princess Maker comparisons
Princess Maker 1 (1991) let you choose a father’s profession but not his gender, and the gender stayed male-coded through all art. Princess Maker 2 (1993) kept the same pattern. My Fairy Princess is unusual among raising sims for offering a full parent-gender choice that affects CG, Kinship flavor, and dialogue — even if it does not affect stats. Treat that as a small but real choice, not as window dressing.
What this wiki will add here
- Parent-specific CG gallery as KDream releases more scenes.
- Pronoun flavor line samples in each language.
- A mother/father scene count comparison once the public UI prints it.
Until then, this page is a decision aid. After you decide, the getting started guide is the same for both.
Frequently asked about parent and ending
A parent does not gate an ending. A father who raises an enchantress still gets an enchantress ending; a mother who raises a hero still gets a hero ending. The parent role affects texture — CG, Kinship flavor, dialogue — but never the ending card itself. If you are torn between father and mother, choose by texture, not by goal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for demo players, parents, and ending hunters.
Does father vs mother change endings?
No. The choice is a CG and Kinship flavor layer. Endings, companions, and combat are identical across both choices. See endings.
Can I change parent mid save?
Not in the current build. Start a new save if you want to swap. New cycles may let you re-select.
Is there a rotating option?
Some scenes reuse neutral cameras regardless of parent. Don't build a run around it.
Which parent is better for a first run?
Father if you plan a prodigy or mortal-peace lean. Mother if you plan an enchantress or healer lean. Or whichever CG you like at the adoption scene.
